Art Day - Friday 6th February 2009

We had a whole school art day on Friday 6th February. Artists Diane Steadman and Alex Jakob-Whitworth came into school to work with the infant children on a collage based on the great gates of Kiev. The children used wood, tissue paper and wool in the construction of the picture. The junior children made a number of figures in plaster based on the mythical character of Baba Yaga. As you can see, it was great fun!

Evacuation Day - Saturday 6th December 2008

The children took part in an evacuation day on Saturday 6th December as part of their topic on World War 2. We were evacuated from the school by coach to the railway station in Carlisle where we boarded the train to Haltwhistle. On arriving at Haltwhistle we were met by coach then transported back to school where the children were billited with their "new" families before settling down to tea and sandwiches in the school hall. The day was topped off with a game of "housey-housey" then a sing-a-long to some of the old favourites by Dame Vera Lynn and Gracie Fields. It really did help the children understand what life was like for children during World War 2.

Harvest Celebration - Thursday 16th October 2008

The children wrote poems about the importance of water for growing fruit and vegetables and for our health. They also told the story of Tiddalick the thirsty frog which is an Aboriginal story about a frog that drank up all the water in Australia and how this affected the other animals.

Flower Arranging Day - Friday 21st December 2008

Jan and Olive came into school to show the children how to make Christmas table decorations. The children used a variety of greenery to create beautiful festive displays. Many of the decorations were sold at the Christmas fayre.
